TAC-TIC TRAINING

Golf Tips Cover.jpg (17257 bytes)Despite the individuality of the game, there are three common elements that define the swings of accomplished players from which most amateurs can learn. Developing a swing that incorporates each of these three key points (foundation, coil and impact) is a must. Over the past months, I've made use of the Tac-Tic Instructional Aid System to help players of all levels. The quartet of Tac-Tic training aids and their auditory feedback mechanism can not only improve your swing, but train you to feel the three key positions.

ANKLE TAC-TIC
Great golf always starts from the ground up. The more solid and balanced a player's foundation, the more powerful and consistent their golf swing will be. One of the common mistakes I see amateur players make is laterally swaying or sliding the hips on the backswing so that their weight ends up outside their back leg, forcing them to compensate by swaying forward on the downswing, which results in a severe loss of accuracy. Practicing with the Ankle Tac-Tic immediately alerts a player guilty of swaying by making a clicking sound. Once a player learns to keep the Ankle Tac-Tic quiet, they'll learn and retain the feeling of coiling their weight to the inside of their back leg and build a foundation for a better golf swing. Price $19.95

KNEE TAC-TIC
The second foundation point in the golf swing centers around the right, or rear, knee. Amateurs typically straighten the right (back) knee, forcing the left (for-ward) knee to bear the weight during the backswing. This reverse pivot is a major source of power loss. Through practice, the Knee Tac-Tic can train a player, again through an audible clicking noise, to maintain the proper amount of flex in the back knee. When the knee stays flexed, it can support the weight of a fully coiled turn behind the golf ball, setting the player up for a powerful transfer of weight through impact into a balanced finish.  Price $59.95

ELBOW TAC-TIC
Once a player has built a solid foundation and has learned to coil behind the golf ball, the next step is to widen the swing arc. The swing arc is a major source of power and consistency in the golf swing. A player with a narrow swing arc usually allows his or her arms to break down and fold against the body on the backswing. With the Elbow Tac-Tic, the player is alerted immediately via a clicking noise when the arms lose their necessary extension. By practicing with the Elbow Tac-Tic, starting with half-swings and then graduating to full swings, a player will learn to widen the arm swing and create a more powerful arc.  Price $39.95

WRIST TAC-TIC
By the time a player has built a solid foundation, coiled fully into the backswing and widened his or her swing arc, he or she is ready to tackle the last major part of a successful golf swing: impact. The key impact position is a flat lead wrist. Players who allow the lead wrist to break down at impact struggle with inconsistent shot patterns because they lose control of the clubface. Practicing with the Wrist. Tac-Tic on all shots, from putting to driving, will help teach players what it feels like to have a flat lead wrist and stable clubface at impact. The result is straighter and more consistent golf shots. Price $29.95 With Video

A solid foundation starts in motion
the dynamics to support a sound
Golf swing. The Ankle and Knee
Tac-Tic training aids, through an
audible click, alert the golfer
when his or her foundation breaks
down.

The Elbow Tac-Tic (left) can help you develop what all long hitters have in common: a wide swing arc. The Elbow Tac-Tic alerts the player when the left elbow breaks down.

The Wrist Tac-Tic (right) can help you solidify your position at impact, specifically by keeping your lead wrist fiat. A fiat lead wrist facilitates control and more accurate shoemaking.

Give these training aids a try during your upcoming practice sessions. I'm sure you'll find your improvement greatly accelerated and your feel for a fundamentally sound golf swing greatly enhanced.
